Bloody weekend in Westmoreland
Two men from the Red Ground community in Negril were among four persons shot and killed by armed men in Westmoreland on the weekend.
The deceased have been identified as Arceno Samms, 28, and Devon Mosley, 34, otherwise called 'Bandoo', both labourers, and Winston Williams, 59, otherwise called 'Slyback', also a labourer of Kings Valley. The identity of another man who was allegedly also shot and killed on Friday afternoon at another section of Red Ground has not yet been released.
The Negril police reported that shortly after 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, residents reported hearing gunshots and summoned them. Upon their arrival, Mosley was discovered suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead. Some time later, armed men carried out what is believed to be a reprisal attack at a shop. The police were summoned and five persons, including Samms and a female, were discovered suffering from gunshot wounds. They were transported to the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital, where Samms was pronounced dead, and the others admitted in serious condition.
When THE STAR visited the community yesterday, residents said that there is an ongoing gang feud in the area. On Friday, gunshots were heard coming from a section of Kings Valley, and upon arrival, Williams was discovered suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
